So the second part of our trip was a little…
As our amazing week at our lovely farm house, Ca’di Bracco in Umbertide, Umbria (have a look at that previous blog post here) came to an end we had another night to fill before our flight home. When discussing in England how we were going to spend this last day in Italy we were both really up for heading into one of the busy tourist destinations such as Florence or Rome. However, this all changed by the end of the holiday as we were so relaxed. All knots of tension had melted away, our shoulders had gone back to their normal position and we had each other’s full attention. So the idea of heading into a busy city where you battle against oncoming crowds just didn’t have the same appeal.
So we decided we wanted to explore Tuscany. I’ve heard many wonderful stories about Tuscany and wanted to see for myself if it lived up to the hype. But the main thing we wanted was still to be able to relax. That’s where Hotel Villa Campomaggio Resort and Spa comes in. This seemed to be the perfect spot for our last night. It was in the beautiful Radda in Chianti where we could explore Tuscany if we wished but also had a spa where we could relax some more.
This is what Hotel Villa Campomaggio Resort and Spa looks like. I think you’ll agree it’s quite something. However no matter how many photos I took they never did it justice. What the photos don’t show is the atmosphere, the smells, the sounds, the feeling of complete calm.
I just don’t think they make hotels like this in England. Maybe it’s the sunshine but there’s just something about Italian buildings that are just magical. Plus the far reaching views of mountains and vineyards in their perfect long rows help just a little. Even the trees put on their best performance by standing tall and proud, framing the lush Tuscan countryside.
The perfect aqua blue swimming pool bathed in sunlight and nestled amongst the greenery also made me squeal with excitement. You will want to dive in and swim your stresses away as soon as you see it.
Or if you just fancy an espresso or a cold glass of something refreshing you can sit on the lovely terrace, have a good chin wag and put the world to rights. Although the reality is you’ll sit in silence as you listen to nothing but the crickets and make shapes out of the passing clouds.
Now onto our room. After walking up a spiral staircase you are greeted by an enormous bed with ruben style paintings all over the headboard. This may seem gimmicky to some but for me it only added to the romance of this hotel.
The other thing you notice is the spectacular surrounding views behind floating curtains which is particularly lovely first thing in the morning.
We managed to tear ourselves away from our comfy room and headed off to explore where the spa was. I get really disappointed if a hotel has a spa but you have to pay extra to use their facilities or have to have a treatment to get the most out of it. This spa is not like that thankfully. You can enjoy all the facilities without having a treatment and still feel like you’ve had a thoroughly lovely time.
Relax on the loungers whilst you enjoy fresh fruit and jasmine tea or have a little splash around in the massive Jacuzzi before enjoying the Sauna or Steam room. Or just sit back and take in the peaceful surroundings and warm breeze scented with Italian flowers.
You can even take yourselves outside, sit amongst nature and catch a few rays if you’re getting a little bit too prune like. Make sure you take your Kindle as you probably won’t be moving for the forcible future.
This hotel rounded of this holiday of a life time just perfectly. The staff are lovely and always on hand should you need anything, the hotel itself is out of this world beautiful, and the country it is located in is simply stunning. The perfect thing about Italy is you can make it into the exact holiday you want. If you want to relax then there’s no better place to rest those tired bodies and minds. If you want to get out and see all of the wonderful sights on foot, car or train you can. If you want the hustle and bustle of glorious ancient cities filled with historic memories then there’s ample places to explore. I don’t feel my words pay justice to this magnificent country so I will stop now and just say go. You will fall in love all over again.
